3-2. Standing Pose
Since it was said "Earth is the mother
of life, /The humble center is balanced /Being and nothingness awaken where
/The feet are planted",1) discussing
the right pose of standing, it is the attribute of Haneul to make your standing
pose with only one leg lowering your hip. Then, why is this the right pose of
standing?
Firstly, it is because of the gravity that you should lower your pose. Following
the force of pulling everything downward(to the center of the earth) you should
hide yourself in it. This is the reason why it is the way of Haneul to lower
your pose. This is the humbleness that you put yourself in lower place than
your opponent along changes of the world.
If you lower yourself this way your opponent cannot throw you nor fell you
down easily. Also you should keep your pose low to resist his intended change
in your firm pose of Bang(¡à),2) dropping your
hip down while standing. It's because the form itself of the standing pose of
Bang is to be made of lowering your hip.
As it is the obedient following the world to lower your pose in humble way,
if in this right pose, you can preserve yourself even if you do nothing. Since
you follow the principles of the Nature, all creatures come to help you. That
is to say, when he intends to punch you lowering your pose firm way enables
you to reduce your defense area, and when he intends to kick you your low pose
enables you to block it before it speeds more up. And if the opponent try to
throw or fell down you the benefit of your low pose, the weightiness, will interrupt
it. This is possible because techniques of his throwing and felling down you
is based on the movement of Won(¡Û), which require distance in it, and your low
pose will shorten the distance applicable to yourself, blocking those attacks.
Therefore, hiding yourself to his inside and to inside of the world. This is
what you do following the way of Haneul(Sky). In this manner you should erase
your fear for the sake of hiding yourself(the way of Haneul about mind) and
you should keep continuous training in order to be able to hide yourself to
inside of the world.
This is the exact reason of why beginners cannot lower their pose despite their
knowledge of this principle. It's because they lack enough strength of legs
to support such pose or to move in it and also they are not used to it. Only
your training can endow your legs with enough strength making you skilled in
exact pose. A beginner is one who wants for much training. Technique is to be
obtained not by knowledge but only by training.
In the low pose of the way of Haneul you should unite both Kang and Yu in oneness.
Lowering your pose in obedience to the force of pulling down is verily the obedient
following. On the other hand, the low pose is already a huddled one, which so
becomes a concentration. That is to say, you come to possess both Kang and Yu
in concentration on the offence and defense(¡â). In this way, you will preserve
what you are going to do despite your obedient following, with no failure. This
is an example of following what is the accordance between the natural law and
man's will.
