4-4-1. First Consideration of
Approach
In order to approach the opponent you have to prevent him from drawing back.
An for its sake, you have to grasp his walking, his sight and his mind.
In order to grasp his walking, your approach should be both swift and natural.
That is, you should approach him suddenly as if to deceive him, for which your
walking must begin abruptly and the whole walking should be composed of only
one rhythm. It means, you must have neither unnecessary movements nor hesitation
of moving your trunk. In order to grasp his sight you should hold his sight
with your sight. I mean, you must lose your sight from his sight. In order to
grasp his mind you have to approach him prior to your hesitation. That is, you
should follow the secret key of Pointing-way-of-legendary-hermit.
How can you approach the opponent while he cannot draw back like this? First,
keep everything of yours on its own proper place along the way of Haneul, with
which you can enable this sort of approach. For an instance, remove your unnecessary
movements then your approach can be swifter. This is meant by my saying that
you have to remove not only unnecessary movements but also hesitations. And
in order to get this Haneul of the technique(Tang) you should possess the Haneul
of the training(Haneul) first. It means, you cannot get it without steady training.
Like this, you can also see Samjae in the essence of technique, and without
these ways of Samjae you cannot obtain the enlightenment of Taekwondo. ¡°Thus
you, when enlightened, put all of yours in a change through swift footwork hiding
under naturality of the world and erases your opponent in your sight. At the
same time, you should keep everything of yours in the calmness like darkness
with nothing disheveled, so that you put yourself in immutability of the world
up to your nonbeing, which refers to following the way of Haneul(Heaven), stated
in the foregoing.¡±(Ch.13)
