Kang-gi and Yu-gi are two types of having the opponent opposed to the world in which you get harmonized, which is verily following the way of Tang. Therefore, it is not that you harmonize or control Kang-gi and Yu-gi along the way of Tang. The way of Tang is the shared form of Kang-gi and Yu-gi, so conversely, they are nothing more than another figures of the way of Tang.

Therefore, if you know only Kang-gi and Yu-gi yet not their unification, you may be able to obtain some pieces of technique yet you can never reach the Ilgiyae as TAEKWONDO. This is the first reason of why most people just learn Taekwondo superficially yet they cannot achieve its ultimate <Do>.

Easily people understand the principle of hardness. It's because it is direct and easy to see. And then they understand that of softness overcoming Kang-gi. And they say also easily "the soft surpasses the hard". This is no more than a further step. Unless you can see through the oneness of hardness and softness you cannot understand its principle even in the technique you've gotten. Thus you come to dead end after all.

With knowledge of techniques of Kang-Yu you cannot understand they are in one, reaching dead end, because you cannot be free in changes of Kang-Yu. So you follow just its specific motions yet cannot follow its principle itself. That is, you come to lose its emptiness.¹⁾ As you lose its emptiness you cannot fill new things. After all, you will fail to be faithful to Kang-gi or Yu-gi itself.

Therefore conversely, you can get the Ilgiyae only after you've mastered techniques with full understanding. This Ilgiyae is what is beyond distinction, thus what is beyond the figure, so it is capably called "Hyong Yi Sang Ja"(形而上者). Therefore, you cannot reach the Hyong Yi Sang Ja" without sufficient training and mastery. This is why “to those whose talents are above mediocrity, the highest subjects may be announced. To those who are below mediocrity, the highest subjects may not be announced.”²⁾ Accordingly, those who begin training should make a diligent effort to master techniques of Kang-Yu.

1) Why you cannot get the emptiness as <Do>? It's because you don't believe you can achieve the real truth in the emptiness. This ignorance comes from that of Samjae. As Samjae is the expedient concept that leads you to the transdistinctive truth, with the understanding of Samjae you can understand the real figure of emptiness, so you can stop your attachment.
2) Confucian Analects, Y0621 子曰, “中人以上, 可以語上也, 中人以下, 不可以語上也.”
