7-3-2. Condition of Kang-technique

In order to accomplish concentration you should cower your entire body down when you move. This Cowering is the first condition of Kang-technique in Taekwondo.

This cowering is in itself the concentration of all parts of your body. Therefore, also in the maneuver ¡°±× ¿ª·®ÀÌ ÁýÁßµÇ¸é ½Â¸®ÇÏ°í, ºÐ»êµÇ¸é ÆйèÇÑ´Ù. ¼öºñÇÒ ¶§¿¡ º´·ÂÀ» Á¶¹ÐÇÏ°Ô ¹èÄ¡ÇÏ¸é ¼öºñ·ÂÀÌ °ß°íÇØÁö°í, °ø°ÝÇÒ ¶§¿¡ ´ë¿ÀÀÇ °£°ÝÀ» Àû´çÈ÷ »ê°³½ÃÅ°¸é ÇൿÀÌ ÀÚÀ¯·Î¿Í ½Â¸®ÇÒ ¼ö ÀÖ´Ù.¡±1) Of the same reason you as a Taekwondo man can win with concentration of strength and technique yet will be defeated with them scattered. Since this cowering also ought to include its temperance and great mean, however, you must not contract your body too much lest you feel uncomfortable to move under restriction by yourself. This is the free cowering, which is different from the shrinking.

The foundation of cowering is to lower your pose. Lowering your pose like this you should at once deposit Samjae in its adequate position to have your entire body at ease. You can get this easiness following the way of Haneul. °ð º´·ÂÀ» Á¶¹ÐÇÏ°Ô ¹èÄ¡Çϸ鼭µµ ´ë¿ÀÀÇ °£°ÝÀ» Àû´çÈ÷ »ê°³½ÃÅ°´Â °Í°ú °°Àº ÀÌÄ¡ÀÌ´Ù.

Shrinking has similar apprearance to that of the cowering. The cowering, however, comes from mastery of the principle, pose and technique, while the shrinking comes from excessive fear for the opponent and excessive defense of yourself. How can you avoid this shrinking? It's possible if you get skilled in basic motions following the ways of Samjae.

The second condition of Kang-technique is possession of weapons to concentrate. The process of training to get them is called "Hardening." Training permeates your life through you, and at the same time your entire life forms you while you also determine your Taekwondo in the moment, conversely. Thus daily training come to be concentrated through hardening on a moment of your Kyorugi. This is also the principle of Kang.

This hardening is verily the process of obtaining the weapon, so it is for strength, flexibility and swiftness.2) And the hardening of strength can be divided into those of muscle and of skeleton. ¡°The right training of Taekwondo is that you master techniques in training for your body and complete your spirit in having those techniques perfect, then, get <Do> over distinctions in this entire process.¡±(Ch.55) Therefore, no hardening then no beginning of Taekwondo training, and, if ever, its foundation cannot help being weak. After all, you cannot use the hardness nor sharpness of Kang-technique because any is so weak.3)

2) Refer to Chapter 42 of PPT.
3) Because it is so natural that Taekwondo requires hardening that it has been rather ignored often.
