7-4-2. Condition of Yu-Technique
In order to use Yu-technique you should relax your body removing excrescent
force. This is the first difficulty. Relaxation, this is the first condition
of Yu-technique. Why do you have to relax? "The softest things in the world
overcome the hardest things in the world. Non-being penetrates that in which
there is no space."1) "For this reason
there is no substitute for it."2) Only
when you can follow your opponent with no substitute for your nature, you can
get <Oneness of Haneul and Tang In Saram>. This is why you should relax
to make your body soft and weak.
In order to be able to use Yu-technique you have to know the network of techniques
This is the second condition of Yu-technique. What is the reason that you cannot
use Yu-technique? Why you fail to follow your opponent? Because what you intend
to do is under restriction. What you intend to do is under restriction because
the techniques you can use to control over him, thus it's because you don't
possess the extensive system of techniques. If you can control over the opponent
from both this side and that side you can continue shifts between those sides
following him. If you have only one technique to control over your opponent,
however, you cannot give it up. Thus you cannot follow him. It means you cannot
use the Yu-technique.
Also should you know what you have to follow and what you have to keep in order
to use Yu-technique. This is the third condition of Yu-technique. What you have
to keep is what is far from your opponent's danger yet close to yours, while
what you have to follow is what is close to his danger yet far from yours.
What is the result like, if you use this Yu-technique with knowledge of its
conditions? Chuang Tsu said; "The government of the enlightened king? His
achievements blanket the world but appear not to be his own doing. His transforming
influence touches the ten thousand things but the people do not defend on him.
With him there is no promotion or praise-he lets everything find its own enjoyment.
He takes his stand on what cannot be fathomed and wanders where there is nothing
at all."3) Also in the use of Yu-technique
you should subdue your opponent moment by moment in hidden way like the government
of the enlightened king. Only by doing so you can control over him following
him. You cannot achieve this without knowledge and mastery of techniques and
Samjae.
