8-2. Three Steps of Using Technique
Technique of Taekwondo proceeds through the 3 steps like followings: Lower
your pose, approach your opponent and control over him. In this way a basic
technique of Taekwondo can be divided into 3 steps because the technique of
Taekwondo, and furthermore, the structure of every change is constituted along
the framework of Samjae.
To lower your
pose is to follow the way of Haneul. To approach the opponent is to follow the
way of Tang. To control over him is to use techniques of Kang and Yu along the
way of Saram. That is, it is the way of Saram because it is to follow what you
intend to do.
Why is it the way of Tang to approach the opponent? Tang refers to the distinguished
entity. Taekwondo is distinguishable as a fighting technique because of its
controlling over him. If you approach him along the way of Tang you can find
his blind point easily. But your own blind point will also be found easily,
which you should be careful of. Owing to the same reason, you cannot find merits
and demerits of your friend easily before you get along with him. So you come
to regard him as either unqualifiedly good or unqualifiedly bad person. After
you've gotten along with him intimately you can recognize his true merits and
demerits. Like this, it is natural technique of worldly success is not different
from that of Taekwondo.
It is your intention to control over your opponent that makes you approach
him. This intention is the way of Saram. Now, you use Kang-gi and Yu-gi along
activity of your mind. And its foundation is to keep everything of yours on
its own proper position, namely the way of Haneul, and its essence is to lower
your pose seeking what you cannot be lower in in motions with humility.
Thus the figure of approach will be like the right picture.
