9-2. Great Understanding and Little
Understanding
Are these words too familiar to you so that it sounds trivial? "Great
understanding is broad and unhurried; little understanding is cramped and busy."1)
In most cases people get more interests on trivial techniques and listen more
to interesting chats, but they are not meaningful ultimately. This is why "The
subjects on which the Confucius did not talk, were - extraordinary things, feats
of strength, disorder, and spiritual beings."2)
What does
the way of Haneul mean? It is rightness, which is the essence of morality. What
does the way of Tang mean? It is distinctness, which is what the man that want
to be right want to know, the content of morality. What does the way of Saram
tell you? It is aggressive promotion, which describes how the man that intend
to live in right way drives himself.
Then what does the principle of Kang say? It is getting the rightness , though
hard, in concentration of your mind along the good laws, which is the center
of etiquette. Then what does the principle of Yu say? It is leading right way
out in harmony with changes of others' minds and of world along careful consideration,
which is the root of etiquette.
Therefore, when you get the unity of Samjae and Kang-Yu in this way it means
agreement of morality and etiquette that is based on the morality, which is
"following your heart's desire not overstepping the boudaries of the right()"
that confucius talked of. Then, you can get everything with particular intention,
which is "doing of not doing()"
that Lao-tzu talked of. Looking into its foundation you can find truth over
distinction, which is "Vrajna(Prajna, )"
of Buddha.(Ch.6) This is Ilgiyae.
Therefore, Taekwondo is the way, way of mind.
