Sool-gi <1>

<To see in movie file>
The beginning point of this Sool-gi is that you hold the opponent wrist with your two hands. This is the technique of Kang(Ch.7-3 of 3JKY). So if you know only the principle of Yu, you cannot even begin its techniques sometimes.(Ch.7-10-2 of 3JKY)
Any way, the visual aspect of this Sool-gi is directly based on the principle of Yu, so it is not wrong to say that techniques of Hapkido are soft. (Refer to Philosophy of Hapkido)
In this step the Hapkido man changes the direction of his strength. Why? Because the opponent resists his pulling rightward. He follows his opponent's resistance. This is the Yu.(Ch.7-4 of 3JKY)
You should see the circular orbit of this Sool-gi; the technical point, i.e., the grabbed wrist of the opponent moves along the circularly orbit. It is why you can change its direction easily. (Refer to Ch.6-10-1 of 3JKY)

In this step, the Hapkido man's pose is lower than that of his opponent. If you want to be able to use this Sool-gi successfully even to stronger opponent than you, you should get this point for sure. (Ch.3-2-1 of 3JKY)

Summing up the whole motion of this Sool-gi, we can see the continuous circular movement of the Hapkido man. But you must not forget that he can control the opponent in that motion only based on the condition of Kang; He never loses the opponent's wrist he holds with his two hands.
You should see in this step that the Hapkido man straightened up his upper body, bending down his two knees instead. Many beginners have strong disposition to bend his trunk down to finish this Sool-gi. Their instructor ought to point out this point.
If you focus on the technical point of this whole motion, i.e., on the movement of wrist, the exact pose of trunk is invisible. That is why beginners fail to use this Sool-gi after learning. This point belongs to the Samjae, the foundation of every technique. "In the concrete Taekwondo, each of Haneul, Tang and Saram is what enables technique, technique itself and the center of controling technique."(Ch. 2-3 of 3JKY)
