About
the author
Let me introduce the author of this article. His name is Lee,
Chang Hoo and he is a philosopher in Korea, who are not so famous yet. He has
learnd Taekwondo more than 17 years. He is now 5th Dan and is studying in Ph.D
course of Seoul National University(SNU), the best University in Korea. He is
major in philosophy. He used to be a Taekwondo master in his army days, in the
special forces of Korea.
Let me explain his personality shortly. He has look of a boy
although he is in the prime of his life. He is not married yet. He likes poems
and philosophy, literature, too. However, he likes children best, to play with
them. He is a little famous in Korea because he is always in blue color. So
he is often called "Blue" or "Master Blue". He teaches foreigners
Taekwondo in Seoul National University these days.
He began learning Taekwondo when he was a child and continued
it after he grew up. He joined the Taekwondo club of SNU when he entered his
University. The members of Taekwondo club were almost students, but it has very
long history and tradition. Many graduate members are very high level Taekwondo
man, who are hidden, thus not known to everybody. (In Korea, and the oriental
cultrue, it is virtuous to hide oneself in spite of his good achievement. So,
the more he achieves the more he hides himself, traditionally.) Master
Blue could learn more profound aspects of Taekwondo there with acquaintances
with important and famous, but hidden, persons in Taekwondo world.
He wrote the poem "That I Clench My Fist" in 1989,
when he began being known to the world. His poem was translated into English
and published in WTF magazine right away, which was sent to all the membership
countries of WTF. He wrote "The Philosophical Principles of Taekwondo"
soon after the first poem, but this philosophical article was too difficult
and long, compared with his poem, and few people were interested in it. In addition
to that, his Grandmaster Lee, Kwanghee advised him not to write something more
about Taekwondo and recommanded to practice Taekwondo perfectly. Thus, this
article "The Philosophical Principles of Taekwondo" was hidden under
the long time of 10 years. A few friends of his could read them privately only
when Master Blue endowed it to them.
Grandmaster Lee, who is the teacher of Master Blue, is known
to few people in the world, and even in Korea, but is the only man who understands
Taekwondo best. He has been investigating Taekwondo more than 30 years. He investigated
even both of Chinese and Japanese martial arts in order to understand Taekwondo.
10 years ago, he was at the end of his study on Taekwondo, and accepted the
Master Blue as his first student. Master Blue was the first man who understood
his Grandmaster's Taekwondo and its profoundness, so he wanted to be his student.
He tried his best to get his permission and devoted himself to following his
Grandmaster more than a year, and at last, the Grandmaster allowed. He learned
Taekwondo from his Grandmaster for 12 years more up to now.
In 1999, Master Blue began to upload his articles of Taekwondo
on internet, and as many people visit his site and read his articles, they began
to be totally evaluated again. Some companies that builds up commercial site
of Taekwondo wanted to pay loyalty for use his poems and another articles.
Now he is still in the course of his training and completion
of Taekwondo, following his Grandmaster.
