  Chapter 35.

Attacking In the Ways of Heaven, Earth, and Man

Your indignation moves the center of your mind. So you can move the center of your body.

Since the figure of Taekwondo is same as that of life, its part and its whole includes each other at once. This interinclusion appears in every motion regardless of its size or its speed, so the right principles of Taekwondo control every change in a momentary movement as well as they control the long process of the common life and the training.

Accordingly, your ideal motion of attack in Taekwondo hits the opponent exploding the flow of power into an attack in a most proper movement, in relaxed smooth motions. At the same time, your mind should be kept empty as if you led your daily life, just as the center of a big drum is empty even with its thundering sound. It is because you follow the way of Sky keeping everything of yours in its proper position. In the course of these, your attack just lies melted in having the opponent opposed to the world, so, its sharpness is unseen so that no one, even next close to you, cannot recognize it, yet there is only your success of the natural control over him. This is just following the way of Earth. And the all of these return to yourself performed as you intend. It is because you control Taekwondo following the way of Man.

Generally speaking, the attack of Taekwondo is putting a point of the universe on the weakest spot of the opponent, and since it is a spatio-temporal point, no part of your body should remain attached to it. This is connected to the feature of Nature that never stops its change even for a moment. You, in Taekwondo, should conceive a point of the weakest point on him to thrust it. Around this point he gets opposed to the world. A point thrusts with a line while a line cuts something with a surface, and, a line that thrusts a point and a surface that cuts a line consist in a momentary figure of Taekwondo. This should be applied to every attack no matter whether it were thrusting, throwing, pressing or grabbing the opponent, because every motion should follow the TAEKWONDO.

There can be no stopping this sort of Taekwondo's attack, and why? A line is another being beyond a set of points and all the same with a surface to a set of lines, yet a line can be broken and a surface can be cut. The line and the surface that overcome the dangers get shorter and narrower respectively so that you as a Taekwondo man can attack a point of your opponent with just a point in its ultimate. Therefore, the attack cannot be stopped because a point cannot be divided, thus, cannot be restricted either.

A point, which is unrestricted with no shape like that, is similar to <Do>, which is in everything showing no shape, and it is also similar to the Sky that resembles <Do>. This is why the King Se-Jong presented with the symbol '' the Sky, one of the three essential materials, in invention of the Hangeul(the Korean letter system). Isn't it a wonder that the principles of Taekwondo's attack and the symbols of Hangeul, although they are all different kinds, show such a consistency like that?
