Taekwondo's Motion in Harmony with Rhythm

"I'm too slow."

"You just hurry up too much"

The most important factor in reading your opponent's rhythm in the change from his inside is breath. For breath is the main stream of life and motions and changes belong to the living process. You can move only because you are alive, and your inside and outside changes are inclined to harmonize with each other converging to a wide accord. Therefore, there can be no movement of your opponent that is alive and absolutely separated from the rhythm of his breathing. Even hard motion when in accord with breathing doesn't exhaust your energy yet rather cheers up. On the other hand even an easy motion when out of accord with breathing tires your muscles and then your whole body. Man's best and perfect motion is always just breathing itself.

Thus, that breath results in motion and the motion makes rhythm and the rhythm determines distance is a principle of the Nature related to everybody that does Taekwondo. Distance of Taekwondo is the gap between what you want and what your opponent wants, so you, hiding your breath and capturing his, can hide your intention and catch his. The distance between you and him will be filled properly for you in this process. Distance resulted from rhythm determines attack and defense, which matter with survival. Therefore, it can be said that being alive in Taekwondo is equal to having your own rhythm perfect with the world. Life and its process consist in it.

In this manner, the right motion of Taekwondo is not beyond making proper rhythm with both adaptations of you and your opponent to each other. No matter how fast or slow a motion may be it is rhythmical. Because it is rhythmical it can be fast or slow enough up to be proper. Because your motion is rhythmical, your opponent can not free himself from it For your rhythmical motion cannot come to being unless your will be harmonized with the whole world. And he is a representative of the world you face, so his motions are parts of it, thus they compose parts of the rhythmicalness of your motion.

Rhythm and rhythmicalness are in continuous change. The continuous change is natural so that you can find it in every aspect of everything. Therefore, the perfect rhythm and rhythmicalness concern not only speed and modes of motion but also even strong or weak power, wild or moderate tide, hasty or slow tempos and so on, so that rhythmicalness consists in the whole of harmony emerging only when everything accords with others properly. Motions of Taekwondo never deny rhythm. Rather, they are applied to every rhythm in harmony into one. Therefore, the perfect motion of Taekwondo is so rhythmical that it is almost one of the most rhythmical dance at once.
