Kokuryo was closely
located geographically, so it was culturally influenced by North Wi in China.
occupying wide realm of its own forcing China, which was very small and weak
at that period, and defending invaders of some northern warriors, who were
another old Korean race, Seonbi. This mood of fortitude can be found
easily in the pictures of Kokuryo making all of the left arts strong and manhooded,
with dignity and gravity. And Kokuryo was the first nation that accepted old
buddhism from China, developing its own unique buddhist culture with architectures,
paintings and sculpture.
The most paintings of Kokuryo are the wall paintings of old tombs. Famous
wall paintings are <Suryopdo>, <Muyongdo>, <Ssireumdo>,
<Sashindo>, <Hangnyeoldo>, and so on. The representative painter
is Damjing who painted the wall painting of the temple Horyu, and Jamaryo
and so on.
