The two-stringed fiddle haegeum is also know as hyegeum and has a sound box, made of hollowed out bamboo. The bow, of loosely woven horse hair, is threaded between the two strings.

The instrument is played in performances of court music and folk usic. The haegeum is one of the most indispensable of instruments in almost any ensemble.
