Everything with Piety

The Taekwondo-Een, who comprehends what is right and wrong, becomes
ethical naturally. His ethical behavior lies in discerning what is right
and wrong, and in choosing the right and abandoning the wrong. The attitude
of the Taekwondo-Een whose life is ethical is piety itself, and piety
is a careful mind to keep everything in its own proper position, so that
nothing loses its proper way. It is same with the way of Haneul (Heaven)
in the activities of the body. The principles of using the body are the
same as those of using the mind.
Of the things you should care for with piety the first is yourself. Taking
care of yourself means putting everything of yourself in its own place,
controlling desire and with well-ordered thought taking care of every
action. At the same time, you must also take care lest any excessive moderation
strain your relationship with friends. In this manner, you should maintain
a balance between temperance and intemperance attached to nothing in your
own way. This is not losing you even in the care of yourself.
The second thing that you need to take care of is your relationships
with others. Taking care of your relationships with others means arranging
all the bad relationships in opposition to one another along the way of
Tang (Earth), on the lookout for bad results harmonizing in that entirety
to keep the good in behavior. In addition, you must also look out lest
man's prosperity should have trouble reconciling with nature. In this
manner, you can maintain a harmonious balance between everyone's development
and fidelity to the preservation of good social customs, so that everyone
respects his ancestors, preserving traditions and advancing civilization
for the sake of all. This is not losing man even in the care of man.
The third thing you must consider with care is your surrounding environment.
Taking care of your environment means avoiding everything in nature that
may harm you, choosing to follow only what can be beneficial. You must
also take care lest your diligence and distinction should at the same
time grow opposed to the harmony of the whole inclusive of them. In this
manner, you, as Taekwondo-Een, must erase and picture yourself at once,
so that you are everywhere yet with your non-being and you are nowhere
yet full of your being. Thus you are everywhere you should be while you
are not everywhere you should not be, which is to be precisely sure with
no mistake. This is to attain your proper position in your surrounding
environment and to attain the world even in watching out for the world.
Generally speaking, all of mankind's principles can be summed up in the
careful piety of the aforementioned three. These principles are the same
with those of the Sages, and the Taekwondo-Een only discovers them in
his or others' attitude of taking care. If the Taekwondo-Een is not idle
in his piety in the care of his self, his relationships and his environment,
then he can complete the reconciliation of Taekwondo as Mu (¹«[Ùë])
and TAEKWONDO as a principle of life.
