6-10-2. Point, Circle and Straight
In motion Samjae of Haneul, Tang and Saram appears as point, circle and straight
It is the point that rules the change of Won(circle). It is not well seen. But
if a point that is the center of a circle were swayed the movement of the Won
fails. The figure of Won movement is the circle. The intended movement of the
man who perform that of Won, however, is the straight line. Thus, you have to
approach appropriately to make a good distance at first, and move toward the
direction along the tangent line to make the movement of Won. If you intend
to move circularly without this knowledge you will rather fail to do it.
The essence of the figure of Bang lies in its construction by more than 4 points.1)
When you are attacked at one of those 4 supporting points you have to seek another
in circular movement along the figure of a ball's rolling. And then you should
support it along the shortest way of movement of a straight line. Thus, you
preserve the firmness of Bang, follow the way of circle in your control of its
change and follow the straight line to speed up its change.
The meaning of Gak is gathering all the others on a point. This gathering all
the others on a point follows a straight line sometimes and a circle another
times. By the way, it will be better to gather also even a straight line and
a circle on a point, for it fulfills more the genuine meaning of Gak. Here you
come to get the technique of the spiral twist. To twist your punch in Jireugi,
to twist your waist in kicks, and to twist your whole body resolving your armlocked
arm; all of these can be its good examples.
As it was said that “the three of Won(○), Bang(□), Gak(△) are the storehouse
of all kinds of forms,”2) all kinds of technique
that follow the ways of Samjae embody those three forms through point, circle
and straight line. Therefore, this knowledge leads you to the easy and sophisticated
