Style of Taekwondo in 1962
This movie file shows the figure of Taekwondo in 1962. The Korean war began on 25th June, 1950. So every Korean people could think almost nothing but the survival, so nothing of Korean culture could change in the middle of 50th in Korea. And you should remember that Korea was not rich at all even before Korean war. It implies that almost no one was interested in the values of Korean culture, so that everything in those cultural things in Korea remained as they were at the Liberation from Japanese government in 1945. And if the TKD players moved that way in 1962 in the national contest, we cannot but believe they had been training that way at least 3 years before 1962. Otherwise no one can fight with that motion in the actual competition. What you come to do in competition for medals is what you've trained most time. For the sake of all of that, their masters should have had same or similar martial arts. Then, we can conclude that those TKD-like martial arts(techniques) were in the middle or in the beginning of 1950ths. As we saw in the foregoings, that style must have been same with that of martial arts before 1950. It means, the figure of Taekwondo in 1962, which is almost same as the current Taekwondo in their fashions, remained from the time of Liberation in 1945. As a conclusion, we can see that it is not true that the current Taekwondo, which is similar to Taekkyon(the old style of Taekwondo), was developed historically by the competiton rules that gives more points on kicks than on punches. The current Taekwondo has been almost same at least for 60 years, from the time of Korean Liberation in 1945. |
