Passion and Love
You have to keep your own passion for Taekwondo. Instructor's passion is contagious. So your students will have their own passion like you as time passes on. Sometimes strong passion of an instructor can make some heavy burden for
his students in mental area. It is because he doesn't control his passion
temperately. So the passion of the instructor should become the source of
understanding and persuasion, and not of psychological oppression. Generally speaking, most instructors have their own passion. Therefore, actual problem is how to control and make use of it in instruction. My answer is that you should express your passion in reasonable way. For that you need love for others. The love will control your passion to well-controled instruction.
When I say 'love', I mean the 'care'. You should care what they feel and what is difficult for them and what is necessary for them. And try to persuade them what you believe. This is the original source of appropriate notification.(Notification) One sub-problem of Passion. Usually, if you have strong passion for Taekwondo, according to my experience, you must also have disposition to ignore the subtle technique of communication or something like that. You must like powerful movement or speedy skill or the likes and despise the importance of talking or emotional control in communication. In most cases, I see, this prevents you from getting good techniques of teaching. Although they may seem trivial, actually they are very important. Let me comment one more. You will have to tell your students "Overcome yourself", particularly in hard training. What is to overcome(subdue) yourself? It is "not to do what you desire to do yet that you ought not do and to do what you dislike to do yet that you ought to do"(Ch. 5-9 of 3JKY) In order to be able to tell them you also have to apply it to youself: although you are not interested in gentle techniques of communication, you should do it, to love your students. |
