The Function of Dae Maek
This maek is used when there are headaches realted to the menstrual cycle, and also used in partient with cystitis which usually involves damp-heat in the liver JokGualEom Gan Gyong. This maek is used if the downward flow of Ki is weakened, usually by a lack of yang in the stomach and spleen. The weakness of the stomach and spleen must be associated with an obstruction of Ki at the waist level caused by a loss of the liver fuction of dispersing Ki. The result is tense leg muscles. For severe cases a patient may feel as if they are seated in water or a numbness fro mthe waist down.
This maek helps harmonize the liver and gallbladder. If liver yang is excess and arthritis is evident especially in the hip area this maek is most useful. This type of arthritis is caused from a yin deficiency from a patient having overworked for years.
