Taekwondo Bible, Vol.1
<<Division 1. Harmony>>

  Chapter 3.
  d
The world, the man and Taekwondo be oneness all together

"What is the real truth?"

"... Put your hand in water and try to grasp it.

The principle of Taekwondo is over every distinction. This is different from confusion in distinctions. Only when Taekwondo man accepts this truth over every distinction he can stop discriminating things with his own prejudicial measure that this is good and that is bad, and then he can accept everything. This is not confusion between this and that, yet the figure of <Do> instead.

Thus, a man who knows the real truth also knows both that mountain is just mountain yet different from sea, and at once that inclination of mountain stretches out even to the bottom of sea and moisture of sea reaches the top of mountain. So he naturally comes to know that it is mere a small process given in our cognition to distinguish mountain from sea, which is neither eternal nor ultimate. This can be applied to everything, and also to Taekwondo. Thus, every one who mastered Taekwondo knows with ease that punching and kicking are ultimately same with each other even though each has distinctive function. And finally he also knows that everything is same in that way...

To transcend every distinction; it is not only different from to be confused with distinctions but also it includes all necessary distinction. Transcending distinctions with inclusion of them is equal to accepting every distinction with no attachment to a thing and grasping the nondistinctive truth which makes every distinction possible behind it. Therefore, although the truth of Taekwondo of this like ultimately denies the division of Taekwondo in three aspects of Musool(martial technique), Muyae(martial art) and Mudo(martial principle), it also affirms and accepts such distinctions. Then, what are the aspects of Musool, Muyae and Mudo in Taekwondo?

Musool refers to the functional aspect of Taekwondo for a certain aim, Muyae to its artistic aspect which refines technique for the sake of technique itself, and Mudo to the comprehensive aspect which includes all of these as nothing of them in one. Muyae, which means pursuit of technique just for the technique itself, may look blind, however, it also contains a rationality, which is in the life itself man lives blind. We can understand this rationality in reflections upon man and life. Although man is rational so is he only in the limited process of pursuing a certain end, and once out of the process, he is so blind as natural being. This, however, is rather all natural, which means the harmony of man and the nature and this is the foundation of absolute rationality unseen at all.

Musool(martial technique), Muyae(martial art) and Mudo(martial principle) are in simple One and cannot be divided at all ultimately. Thus, complete Musool necessarily <Do> includes in itself to be expanded into Mudo, so Mudo with no technique is vacant. The art is expression and appearance of man over distinctions, so it contains both of technique and <Do> to show us. <Do> cannot be perceived. For, since <Do> penetrates everything in the world there must also be the <Do> in the very perception. Instead, we can meet <Do> by way of <Yae>(arts). Therefore, there is no difference at all among Musool, Muyae and Mudo. And there is no difference between what is Taekwondo and What is not Taekwondo.

Someone regards it trivial and valueless only to say of the techniques of Taekwondo without talking immense principle that penetrates everything, and this is owing to that he misunderstands the philosophy of Taewkondo or Taewkondo itself. Everything lies under the sky on the earth, and man, even if he has a dignity, is merely one of this everything. So if there were a <Do> in doing Taekwondo, it must be such a principle as penetrates world, man and Taekwondo at once. Thus, the truth of Taekwondo emerges only when the world, a man and his motions are perfectly harmonized with one another, and it can be applied to every case with no fault. Therefore, the right Taekwondo man can obtain both of (art and etiquettes) <Yae> and <Do>, even when he has seen a mere simple technique.
